Had a cool reminder recently about what makes tracks connect these days.
Last week a 17-year-old sent me some beats made on the demo version of Ableton Live.Â
They were great. Better than most "professional" mixes I hear.
It just reminded me that it's always going to be vibe that wins, not perfection.
Here's a few thoughts on what's actually working right now:
Speed beats specs âš¡
The producers getting placements are finishing 5 beats while others are still tweaking beat #1.Â
More output = more opportunities. It's a numbers game, and finished always beats perfect.
'F*ck it up more' 🔥
I've sampled more voice notes on my phone than I can count - artists LOVE that raw, immediate energy.Â
The magic is very often in the imperfection. Try to find ways to 'f*ck it up more' - resample a sound through your speakers from the back of the room.
Vibe over everything 🔑
A beat with soul made in 20 minutes beats a technically perfect bore-fest every time.Â
Artists want to FEEL something. Trust those first instincts - they're usually right. Â
Keep creating,
Rob x
